Wirra Wirra Woodhenge McLaren Vale Shiraz

Wirra Wirra Woodhenge McLaren Vale Shiraz is a prestigious red wine from the McLaren Vale region of South Australia, produced by the renowned winery Wirra Wirra. The name "Woodhenge" refers to a striking structure on the winery, which consists of a circle of ancient eucalyptus trunks that together form a kind of "henge", similar to the famous Stonehenge.

This wine is a single-varietal Shiraz, with the grapes coming exclusively from the Shiraz vines. Shiraz from the McLaren Vale region is known for its exuberant and powerful character, with vibrant fruit flavors of ripe berries, blackberries and plums, accompanied by notes of spice, pepper and subtle hints of vanilla from aging in oak barrels.

When tasting, Wirra Wirra Woodhenge McLaren Vale Shiraz reveals a full body with soft, ripe tannins that provide a silky smooth texture. The wine has great depth and complexity, with a wonderful balance between fruity and spicy elements. The finish is long lasting and generous, testifying to the quality of the wine.

Wine - Food pairing

This Shiraz is an excellent companion for grilled meat, such as tender steak, lamb skewers or game dishes. It also goes well with hearty pasta dishes and hard cheeses.

Wirra Wirra Vineyards

The Aboriginal name 'Wirra Wirra' means 'among the gum trees'. Founder Bob Wigley's wines, especially from the Syrah grape, were very popular in London. The wines have been exported around the world for over 100 years. In 1936 most of the vineyards were sold by the family and the wine cellars fell into disuse. In 1969, Greg and Roger Trott bought the dilapidated winery and some surrounding land. The two first cousins brought their own vineyards into the new company and started making wine, aided by the local wine producers.

McLaren Vale is located in the state of South Australia, a 45-minute drive from the capital Adelaide. It is famous as a culinary paradise full of tasty culinary specialties and great wines. The Mediterranean climate is tempered by the proximity of the Saint Vincent gulf. The summers are warm and the winters are moderate. Precipitation (580-700 mm per year) mainly falls in winter. During the warm season, humidity is low and evaporation is high. Little or no chance of frost during the growing period or rain during harvest. Depending on the type of soil and location, we work without irrigation or with drip irrigation. Wirra Wirra Winery has its own dam and water recycling installation. The vineyards work biodynamically.
