Wirra Wirra Adelaide Shiraz

Wirra Wirra Shiraz is a red wine produced by the renowned Australian winery Wirra Wirra. The winery is located in the McLaren Vale region of South Australia, known for its excellent wines, especially Shiraz. The Wirra Wirra Shiraz is made from 100% Shiraz grapes, also known as Syrah in some wine regions. This grape variety thrives in the warm climate of McLaren Vale and produces wines with a full body and intense flavours.

Wirra Wirra Adelaide Shiraz is bright purple-red in color, spicy dark berry and cherry fruit with a hint of wood in the nose. Tight juicy attack with light and dark red fruit, from plums and blackberries to cherry and raspberry, a nice spiciness, fresh acidity and tinkling tannins. Fine herbal and wood bitters, spicy! Beautiful tension from light-footed and juicy start to a long finish full of fruit and spiciness at the end. Not heavy and bulky, but lively and juicy.

The grapes come from different plots and are carefully selected. The Shiraz grapes are fermented after being destemmed, with a daily 'pumping over' taking place. The wine is sprayed back over the skins from the bottom of the tank to obtain the best extraction of aroma and flavor from the skins. After pressing, the wine is then aged for several months in French and American oak barrels to build additional flavor and fragrant complexity.

Wine - Food pairing

This Shiraz is an excellent accompaniment to various dishes, including grilled meat such as steak, lamb and game dishes. It also goes well with hearty pasta dishes and hard cheeses.

Wirra Wirra Vineyards

The Aboriginal name 'Wirra Wirra' means 'among the gum trees'. Founder Bob Wigley's wines, especially from the Syrah grape, were very popular in London. The wines have been exported around the world for over 100 years. In 1936 most of the vineyards were sold by the family and the wine cellars fell into disuse. In 1969, Greg and Roger Trott bought the dilapidated winery and some surrounding land. The two first cousins brought their own vineyards into the new company and started making wine, aided by the local wine producers.

McLaren Vale is located in the state of South Australia, a 45-minute drive from the capital Adelaide. It is famous as a culinary paradise full of tasty culinary specialties and great wines. The Mediterranean climate is tempered by the proximity of the Saint Vincent gulf. The summers are warm and the winters are moderate. Precipitation (580-700 mm per year) mainly falls in winter. During the warm season, humidity is low and evaporation is high. Little or no chance of frost during the growing period or rain during harvest. Depending on the type of soil and location, we work without irrigation or with drip irrigation. Wirra Wirra Winery has its own dam and water recycling installation. The vineyards work biodynamically.
