Alejandro Fernandez is a renowned winemaker and founder of the Pesquera Group, a collection of wineries located in the Ribera del Duero region of Spain. Born in 1932 in the small town of Pesquera de Duero, Fernandez grew up in a family of farmers and began working in the vineyards at a young age. Over time, he developed a deep passion for winemaking and set out to create his own wines.
In the early 1970s, Fernandez founded Bodegas Alejandro Fernandez, his first winery in Ribera del Duero. He quickly gained a reputation for producing high-quality wines and went on to found several more wineries in the region, including Condado de Haza, El Vinculo, and Dehesa la Granja.
Fernandez is known for his commitment to traditional winemaking techniques and for using only the highest quality grapes. He is also a pioneer of the Tempranillo grape, which is widely used in the production of his wines.
The Pesquera Group produces a range of wines, including the iconic Tinto Pesquera, which is made from 100% Tempranillo grapes and is aged in oak barrels for up to two years. The wine is known for its deep, rich flavors and aromas of dark fruit, spice, and oak.
Today, the Pesquera Group remains one of the most respected and well-known winemaking organizations in Spain, and Fernandez's legacy as a pioneer of Ribera del Duero wines continues to inspire winemakers around the world.
