Waterkloof

Waterkloof

Waterkloof is a biodynamic and organic winery located on the southwestern slopes of Schapenberg in Somerset West, South Africa. The winery was established in 2004 and is known for producing elegant and complex wines with a focus on terroir expression.

Waterkloof is committed to sustainable and biodynamic farming practices, which means they do not use any herbicides or pesticides on their vineyards. They also use cover crops and animal grazing to promote biodiversity and soil health. All of their wines are made with organically grown grapes, and the winery is certified organic and biodynamic.

Waterkloof's winemaking philosophy is to intervene as little as possible during the winemaking process to allow the fruit to express itself fully. The wines are fermented using native yeasts, and they are aged in French oak barrels for up to 22 months.

Waterkloof produces a range of wines, including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and a Bordeaux-style blend called Circumstance. The winery also produces a sparkling wine called Circumstance Blanc de Blancs, which is made using the traditional method and aged for at least three years on the lees.
