Weingut Carl Ehrhard is a family-owned winery located in the Rheingau wine region of Germany. The winery has been in operation since 1775 and has been run by the Ehrhard family for more than 200 years. The current owner and winemaker, Philipp Ehrhard, is the seventh generation of his family to produce wine at the estate.
The winery cultivates its vineyards across 15 hectares of land, producing a variety of white wine grapes, including Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Chardonnay. The vineyards are located on south-facing slopes with a range of soils, including loess, loam, and slate. The diverse soil types contribute to the unique character of each wine.
The winemaking philosophy at Weingut Carl Ehrhard is to produce wines that are expressive of their terroir and reflect the vintage. The grapes are handpicked and sorted to ensure only the best fruit is used. The winery uses a combination of modern and traditional winemaking techniques, such as temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for fermentation and aging, as well as the use of large oak barrels for maturation.
The winery produces a range of wines, including dry and off-dry Rieslings, as well as Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Chardonnay. The wines are characterized by their elegance, finesse, and balance, with a focus on purity of fruit and mineral expression.
Weingut Carl Ehrhard has received numerous awards and accolades for its wines, including recognition in the Gault & Millau and Eichelmann wine guides, as well as top ratings from wine critics such as Robert Parker and Jancis Robinson.
