Located in the southern part of the Rhône Valley in southern France, Costières de Nîmes is a wine appellation historically and geographically linked to both the Rhône Valley and the Languedoc region. It is one of the few wine regions in France that is allowed to carry both the AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) of the Rhône and the AOC of the Languedoc.
The vineyards of Costières de Nîmes benefit from a Mediterranean climate with warm summers and mild winters, as well as the influence of the Mistral wind. The soils range from pebbly terrains to clay and limestone, allowing for a diversity of flavors and styles in the wines.
As for grape varieties, both red and white wines are allowed in Costières de Nîmes, although red wines are the most common. For red wines, grape varieties such as Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Carignan are often used, resulting in wines with a warm character, ripe red fruit and spicy notes. The white wines are often produced from grapes such as Grenache Blanc, Marsanne and Roussanne, and they exhibit fresh citrus aromas and sometimes floral notes.
Costières de Nîmes wines are known for their accessibility and good value for money. The red wines are often smooth, fruity and suitable for daily consumption, while the white wines offer freshness and liveliness.
