Philippe Nusswitz

Philippe Nusswitz

Philippe Nusswitz comes, as his name suggests, from Alsace. Here he has worked for a long time as a passionate sommelier, including at Auberge de l'Ill of the Haeberlin family, a restaurant with three Michelin stars. In 1986 he was named 'best sommelier in France'.

But his passion for wine goes beyond the sommelier profession. In the early 2000s he visited the town of Durfort in the Cévennes. The climate, the location at the foot of the mountains and the pure, authentic life have captured him: he sees himself and his family living here and making wine. Together with his wife Pascale and his children, he settled in an old 17th-century 'mas' in Durfort in 2002. The couple wants to invite people and share their love for the area and the wines, and decide to rent out some of the rooms to visitors.

Philippe appears to have a talent for winemaking. He throws himself into this with the same passion and drive as in his position as sommelier. Philippe likes to work as purely and cleanly as possible. His wines are powerful and elegant, robust but also fresh. This freshness has to do with the climate: it can be quite hot during the day in summer, but the surrounding mountains cool it down considerably at night, which preserves the freshness in the wines.
