Lionel Gosseaume

Lionel Gosseaume

Lionel Gosseaume comes from a family of winegrowers. His parental domain is a stone's throw from Lionel's home, but Lionel first chose a life far away from winegrowing. Nevertheless, at the age of 37, he returned to his homeland and in 2007 took over the vineyards of Jean-Claude Maurice of Domaine de Pierre, who had cultivated them wisely from the 1960s.

Domain Gosseaume

This domain is called Lionel Gosseaume since 2007, it now covers more than 15 hectares, of which Sauvignon Blanc makes up 75% and Gamay about 15%. The most special varieties at Gosseaume are Menu Pineau and especially the Meslier-Saint-François. The latter is an old local variety (a natural cross between Gouais Blanc and Chenin Blanc) that is almost extinct and of which Lionel is one of the few producers in the world. He has 0.3 hectares and the yield, which he keeps low because of the strong acidity of Meslier-Saint-François, he assembles with Sauvignon Blanc to create the very original and delicious Vin de France called Climat Nº2.
