In the lush landscape of the Belgian province of Limburg, the impressive Wijnkasteel Genoels-Elderen shines as a symbol of historical grandeur and refinement. This castle not only has a rich history, with the oldest traces of viticulture dating back to Roman times, but also lies at the geographical origin of wine culture in Belgium. Despite the fact that wine culture has been lost in recent centuries, Wijnkasteel Genoels-Elderen has breathed new life into Belgian wine culture under the leadership of the Kekko-van Rennes family since 1991.
With its vast 22 hectares, the wine castle is home to some of the oldest and largest vineyards in Belgium, spread over 5 different plots in the immediate vicinity of the castle. This creates optimal conditions for direct pressing. The 18 hectares of Chardonnay and 4 hectares of Pinot Noir fall under the controlled designation of origin Haspengouw and Flemish sparkling quality wine.
By opting for manual pre-selection, summer pruning and direct pressing, the wine chateau strives for the ultimate balance and finesse in its products. In the state-of-the-art, climate-controlled cellar, age-old natural yeasts from the original cellars are used, which forms a perfect harmony between tradition and innovation. Depending on the product, fermentation and maturation takes place in the best stainless steel tanks, exclusively Burgundian oak barrels or a combination of both.
