Diwald is a family-owned and operated winery located in the Wagram wine region of Austria. The winery has been in the Diwald family for over 300 years and is currently run by Martin and Anna Diwald. The couple is committed to organic and biodynamic farming practices and uses natural winemaking techniques to produce their wines.
Diwald produces a range of white wines, including Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, and Chardonnay, as well as red wines such as Zweigelt and St. Laurent. The winery's vineyards are located on a mixture of soils, including loess, clay, and limestone, which contribute to the complexity and character of the wines.
The winery's Grüner Veltliner is particularly noteworthy, with several different bottlings available. The entry-level Grüner Veltliner is fresh and crisp, with notes of green apple and citrus, while the single-vineyard wines are more complex and expressive, with flavors of ripe stone fruit and a distinctive minerality.
In addition to their focus on quality winemaking, the Diwalds are also committed to sustainable and regenerative practices in the vineyard and winery. They use cover crops, compost, and natural predators to promote biodiversity and health in the vineyards, and they minimize their use of energy and water in the winery.
