Sarget de Gruaud Larose

Sarget de Gruaud Larose, like any top Château in Bordeaux, Château Gruaud-Larose also has a second wine in addition to the Grand Vin called “Sarget de Gruaud Larose.” This wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (72%), Merlot (18%), Petit Verdot (8%) and Cabernet Franc (2%) grapes. After vinification, this wine was aged for 14 months in French oak barrels, of which 15% new oak.

This charming second wine is somewhat lighter and more fruity than the Grand Vin, with delicious aromas of cherries, raspberries and a light spiciness. The wine is nicely balanced, with lots of freshness, pleasant tannins and a long finish. A fantastic second wine from one of the best wineries of Saint Julien.

Château Gruaud-Larose

Château Gruaud-Larose has been one of the best wine estates in the Saint Julien appellation for many years. The first part of the name comes from a local priest named Joseph Stanislas Gruaud, the first owner of the Château. Back then, in the 1750s, the winery was already known for the quality of its wines. After his death in 1771, the property passed to his son-in-law, named Joseph-Sébastien de Larose. He ensured that the wines, from 1791, were marketed under the name Gruaud-Larose.

After being sold by auction, the winery came into the hands of two men (Jean Auguste Sarget & Pierre Balguerie-Stuttenberg) in the early 19th century, who jointly decided to split the domain into 'Chateau Gruaud-Larose Sarget' and 'Chateau Gruaud Larose Faure Finally, in 1935, the Cordier family ensures that Chateau Gruaud-Larose Sarget and Chateau Gruaud Larose Faure become one again by purchasing both individual domains.
