Salentein Numina Petit Verdot is a wine with an intense, purple-red color. Minty and spicy notes such as licorice and laurel mixed with clear notes of black fruit such as blueberries and black currants meet you in the scent. An intense taste with firm and juicy tannins that give the wine a fresh and long finish.
In the heart of the Mendoza lies the Uco Valley, the bodegas Salentein. Acclaimed Argentinian winemaker José “Pepe” Galante has been head winemaker since 2010 and is considered by many to be one of South America's most influential and important winemakers.
Located in the Uco Valley sub-region, from the Mendoza region, Bodegas Salentein can rightfully speak of a unique location. The name of the vineyard for the Numina wine is 'El Oasis'. This vineyard is the lowest, but has the longest growing season, so you get a nice ripe wine with soft tannins. This wine is made 100% from Petit Verdot grapes from vineyards on the El Oasis estate. The planting density is 5,500 plants per hectare. The soil is alluvial, sand-loam, there are pebbles in the first 40 cm of the bottom and calcium carbonate of biological origin is present in greater depths.
Grapes were harvested by hand and brought to the winery in 400 kg plastic bins. This was followed by cluster selection, de-stalking and pressing of the grapes. Cold maceration was carried out at 8-10°C for 5 days. Fermentation took place in oak barrels at a controlled temperature between 27-29 °C. After the alcoholic fermentation was completed after 14 days, the maceration process continued for another 3 days. Once this phase was completed, the wine was stored in oak barrels where malolactic fermentation took place.
Delicious wine that goes well with stew, game and ripe cheeses.
