With approximately 5 hectares of vineyards, Schumacher is one of the smaller wineries in the Ahr. In terms of quality, it belongs to the top, not least because of the great positions of its vineyards (including parcels on the Walporzheimer Krützenberg and the Marienthaler Trotzenberg). With slate and "Grauwacke" (sandstone) soils, rich in iron and minerals.
The valley of the river Ahr is the most northerly place in Europe where world-class red wine can be made. The heat lingers in this narrow valley, and the steep vineyards collect a lot of sun. This is all about one grape: the noble Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir).
