Montes Taita

Montes Taita is an iconic wine from Montes Winery. It is a very special and limited produced wine that belongs to the top selection of Montes. Montes Taita is considered the winery's most premium and high-quality wine. It is a red wine produced from the very best grapes, sourced from select vineyards in the Apalta region of Chile's Colchagua Valley. The wine is named after "Taita", an indigenous word that means "father" and symbolizes the deep respect and homage to the land and nature.

The exact composition of Montes Taita can vary depending on the harvest, but it is often a blend of different grape varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère and other Bordeaux varieties. The wine undergoes a prolonged aging in new French oak barrels, which contributes to the complexity and structure of the wine.

Montes Taita is known for its deep, concentrated flavours, intense aromas and silky tannins. It is a wine with great aging potential and can develop even further over the years.

Due to limited production and high quality, Montes Taita is often difficult to obtain and can be an exclusive and precious wine. It is a wine appreciated by lovers of premium red wines and is considered a showpiece of Montes Winery.

Wine - Food pairing

A serious wine for a serious dinner. Serve with heavenly dishes such as lamb shoulder from the oven with rosemary and garlic, slow-cooked beef rib, tenderloin with red wine sauce or wild boar ragout with red cabbage. Feel free to drink a glass to round off the dinner with a piece of cheese.

Vina Montes about Montes Taita

The Taita vineyards are located at the El Arcángel de Marchigüe estate, at the western end of the Colchagua Valley, 25 km. from the Pacific Ocean. Like most Chilean soils, those in Marchigüe are of granitic origin at levels of decomposition that vary by location. Some have high clay content and moderate depth, while others are shallower with less clay and more silt and rocks.

In the vineyard parcels dedicated to Taita, one can clearly see glacial influence in the formation of the soil structure, where typically angular stones deposited by moving glaciers are found with stones rounded and smoothed by surface water.

The Taita vineyards are special because they are dry farmed, which means we do not irrigate the plants during their development and ripening stages; they develop ‘naturally’, with consequently fewer bunches of smaller, more concentrated grapes.

Montes Taita is a fantastic Chilean red wine from Viña Montes from Chile. This wine is made from 80% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and 15% grapes at the choice of the winemaker.
