Marcel Deiss Schoenenbourg is a Grand Cru wine from Alsace in France. It is a blend of 13 different Alsace wine grape varieties, which are grown together in a unique way in the vineyard. The wine is loved for its complex and layered character.
The grapes for the Marcel Deiss Schoenenbourg come from the Schoenenbourg vineyard. This is south-oriented and located on a very steep slope at the edge of the valley. The cool, wet influence of the Vosges is clearly noticeable here, which means that the grapes do not ripen until late and the risk of noble rot is almost inevitable. The soil consists of marl and calcareous sandstone on a sublayer of fertile, water-bearing clay. This special vineyard produces complex, rich wines with a beautiful body and a very great aging potential (25 to 40 years!).
This wine shows the special character and enormous potential of Alsace. Spicy, slightly smoky aromas on the nose reminiscent of a Tokay Pinot Gris. Rich, slightly sweet on the palate, beautifully balanced with the subtle acidity and minerality. This minerality will become more apparent over time.
