Lionel Gosseaume Les Marcottes

Lionel Gosseaume Les Marcottes is an ode to the Gamay grape variety. Gamay is a capricious grape variety that demands a lot of attention. But he's also wonderful and generous if we don't let him do what he wants! The estate's old Gamay vines are grassed to preserve their natural spirit and are rigorously pruned. The grapes are very ripe, harvested by hand and carefully sorted. These preserved grapes are barrel-aged and benefit from a two-week carbonation maceration.

Les Marcottes is made, a la Beaujolais style, from vines between 30 and 45 years old. The grapes undergo the typical maceration carbonique for 10 days. This ensures a light, crispy Gamay wine, full of red fruit and spiciness.

A delicious red wine to drink slightly chilled in the summer.

Wine - Food pairing

Delicious wine as an aperitif, but also in combination with mushrooms, white fish dishes from the oven and red meat dishes.

Lionel Gosseaume Les Marcottes

Lionel Gosseaume

Lionel Gosseaume comes from a family of winegrowers. His parental domain is a stone's throw from Lionel's home, but Lionel first chose a life far away from wine growing. Nevertheless, at the age of 37, he returned to his homeland and in 2007 took over the vineyards of Jean-Claude Maurice of Domaine de Pierre, who had cultivated them wisely from the 1960s.

This domain is called Lionel Gosseaume since 2007, it now covers more than 15 hectares, of which Sauvignon Blanc makes up 75% and Gamay about 15%. The most special varieties at Gosseaume are Menu Pineau and especially the Meslier-Saint-François. The latter is an old local variety (a natural cross between Gouais Blanc and Chenin Blanc) that is almost extinct and of which Lionel is one of the few producers in the world. He has 0.3 hectares and the yield, which he keeps low because of the strong acidity of Meslier-Saint-François, he assembles with Sauvignon Blanc to create the very original and delicious Vin de France called Climat Nº2.
