Like any top Château in Bordeaux, Château Giscours has a second wine in addition to the Grand Vin, called “La Sirène de Giscours.” Made with the same great care as the Grand Vin, but from the younger plots. This charming second wine is slightly lighter and fruitier than the Grand Vin and therefore faster to drink. La Sirène de Giscours is an elegant wine with lots of fruit, a concentrated taste and juicy tannins. The wine is composed of 58% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot. It is aged for 12 months in oak barrels (of which 50% new).
The result is a wine in which the class of Giscours can undeniably be tasted. In the nose fine aromas of red fruit and a hint of cedar, ripe red fruit and a hint of eucalyptus. Pleasant in the mouth with a fruity attack, notes of cocoa and vanilla and then a long, complex finish.
Wine serving temperature: 16 - 18 °C.
La Sirène de Giscours pairs well with lighter meat dishes such as roasted chicken, veal or duck breast. It also goes well with grilled vegetables and Mediterranean dishes such as ratatouille. Its soft structure and elegant tannins make it an excellent choice with lighter, creamy cheeses such as brie or camembert, and it forms a beautiful whole with various starters and charcuterie boards.
Château de Giscours, located in the Margaux appellation of the Médoc, is a historic domain with origins dating back to the 14th century. The estate has 80 hectares of vineyards, where mainly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are grown on the gravelly soils typical of Margaux. Since its acquisition by the Albada Jelgersma family in the 1990s, Château de Giscours has made an impressive leap in quality, with a strong focus on traditional winemaking techniques combined with modern innovations.
