Chardonnay was introduced into the Abruzzo at the end of the nineteenth century and was immediately successful in terms of quality. Today, it is recognized as one of its most popular varietals. The Abruzzo region is bordered by the dramatic landscape and terroir of the Maiella and Gran Sasso mountain ranges, home to one of the area’s most celebrated rivers, the Nora.
Fresh fruit flavors blend harmoniously with an appealing, crisp acidity that lingers on the palate.
The grapes for Nora (named after a river of the same name) come from a vineyard located at an altitude of 350 meters near the medieval town of Loreto Aprunto and planted with chardonnay in 2005. The grapes are harvested by hand at the end of August. In the vinification cellar, they are immediately destemmed and lightly crushed, and then given a cold soak of more than 24 hours. This is followed by a gentle pneumatic pressing and the juice is allowed to undergo a temperature-controlled (16°C) alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. After about 14 days, the young wine is transferred to clean stainless steel tanks and allowed to mature on the 'lie' for several months without malolactic fermentation. Then the wine is assembled, clarified, lightly filtered and bottled.
An enticing bouquet of ripe apple, lemon and tropical fruit renders all types of seafood a natural pairing for this wine. It also makes a great aperitif wine to sip on a warm summer’s night.
