Hospices de Beaune

The history of the Hospices Civils de Beaune began in 1443 with the desire of Nicolas Rolin and Guigone de Salins to build a hospital: the Hôtel-Dieu. The founders performed acts of charity and patronage, establishing a tradition that allowed the Hospices de Beaune to continue through history under exceptional circumstances.

Today, the Hospices Civils de Beaune unite the hospital center of Beaune, the hospitals of Arnay-le-Duc, Seurre and Nuits-St-Georges, as well as a training institute for the nursing and healthcare professions (subsidized by Burgundy).

The originality of this hospital institution lies in the importance and nature of its heritage which consists, on the one hand, of a historic monument, the Hôtel-Dieu de Beaune, which has no longer welcomed patients or elderly residents since the early 1980s, and on the other hand, two prestigious wine estates: Hospices de Beaune and Hospices de Nuits.
