Giol Merlot Barrique is a beautiful red wine from Veneto, Italy, produced by Azienda Agricola Giol. This wine is made from the Merlot grape, a well-known and loved variety that is popular worldwide for its soft tannins and fruity flavours.
The term "Barrique" in the name of the wine refers to the aging process. This wine has been aged in small oak barrels known as barriques. The aging process in oak barrels adds extra depth, complexity and structure to the wine, giving it its distinctive flavor profile.
When poured, Giol Merlot Barrique reveals a deep ruby red color, reflecting the concentration and maturation of the wine. On the nose, the wine offers seductive aromas of ripe red fruits, such as cherries, blackberries and plums, along with notes of spices, such as vanilla, cinnamon and cloves, which come from the oak. On the tongue, the wine presents itself with a full body and soft, well-integrated tannins. The taste is velvety and harmonious, with the fruity and spicy notes nicely balanced.
Giol Merlot Barrique is an excellent choice for lovers of smooth and full-bodied red wines with a refined taste. It is a wine to enjoy with various dishes, such as grilled red meat, stews, pasta with meat sauce and mature cheeses.
Giol Merlot Barrique is an Italian organic and vegan red wine from the Veneto region. This wine is made from 100% Merlot grapes.
Recommended serving temperature between 16°C and 18°C.
Located in the heart of San Polo di Piave, 35 km from Venice (Veneto), Azienda Agricola Giol is the oldest Prosecco house from Italy (1427). The trademark of this winery is the today uninhabited castle Giol. Here the wines are aged in the cellars, under the watchful eye of the young Venetian winemaker Vittorio Carraro, behind meters thick walls and therefore at a constant temperature.
The recent history of the castle and wine cellars goes back to the events surrounding 2 families: first the Papadopoli family and later the Giol family. The Count Papadopoli, a Venetian banker, used the castle as his summer residence and left Venice during those months to supervise the harvest on his infinite estate. In 1923, the family sold the huge estate with more than 60 farms belonging to the estate and the castle to Commander Giovanni Giol. He had just returned from South America after a very successful emigration period. He moved into the castle and continued with the count's work. While preserving the structure and the old wine cellars, he built a second barrel room, still known for its size and charm. After the contributions of the next three generations, the entire complex is in excellent condition and a winery remains where great wines are produced. All made from organic grapes, vegan, sometimes without added sulfites and with relatively low alcohol percentages.
