Dr. Loosen Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese is an intense, noble-sweet wine, made from grapes that are at least 50% affected by noble rot (botrytis cinerea). This attack causes the grape to lose tasteless moisture in a natural way, so that a concentrated nectar remains with which to make deliciously sweet wine. Ripe stone fruit in the taste, something of lemon zest. Relatively little alcohol, and a wonderful sweet-sour balance. From a famous steep vineyard with blue slate soil: 'Wehlener Sonnenuhr'.
Wehlener Sonnenuhr is a famous vineyard in Germany's Moselle wine region, just a few kilometers upstream from Erdener Treppchen. The name is a reference to the sundial that sits atop a nearby chapel. The vineyard is located on a south-facing slope and benefits from ample sunshine, which helps the grapes to fully ripen. The soil in the vineyard is mainly blue and gray slate, which gives the wines produced there their characteristic mineral flavours.
The Wehlener Sonnenuhr wines are highly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs around the world, and the vineyard is widely regarded as one of the best in the Moselle region.
