Dorli Muhr Ried Spitzerberg

Dorli Muhr Ried Spitzerberg is a graceful rich red wine with striking refinement. Intense cherry color and an exuberant nose with black and red berries and fine spices with a soft touch of wood.

Vineyard Ried Kobeln is at 300 meters the highest location on the Spitzerberg. Here the ground cover is very small and the wind load is even stronger, leading to extremely low yields. In 2008, the area of 1.1 hectares was planted with an average yield of approximately 1500 to 2000 kg of grapes. The Blaufränkisch grapes are extraordinarily small with a diameter of 8 mm and therefore bring a lot of tannins and aromas to the dense wine. The Spitzerberg is a limestone mountain about 5 km long and 300 meters high in the east of Carnuntum. It lies in the extremely wind-exposed plain between the Alps (Leitha Mountains) and the Carpathians (Hainburg Mountains).

The amount of precipitation on the Spitzerberg is only about 400 mm per year and summer temperatures are often between 35 and 40 degrees. The sandy limestone soil can store very little water. This leads to very low crop yields of up to 3000 kg of grapes per hectare. Blaufränkisch grapes from the oldest vineyards are selected for the winery's top wine. It is a Spitzer plot planted in 1955, a red earth plot (planted in 1985), and a plot on the panwoods (planted in 1985). Each year, these old vines produce the most elegant and best wines with fresh acidity, precise aromas and high aging potential.
