Daumen Châteauneuf du Pape Rouge

Daumen Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge is a red wine from the Châteauneuf-du-Pape region in the Rhône Valley, France. This wine is produced by Domaine Daumen, a renowned winery in the region.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge is a blend of several grape varieties permitted in the region, such as Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah, Counoise and Mourvèdre. The wine has a deep ruby red color and a complex aroma. You can expect aromas of ripe red fruits, such as currants and cherries, combined with spicy notes, such as pepper and cinnamon, and earthy nuances.

In the taste, the Daumen Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge is full and concentrated, with soft tannins and a good balance. The wine often has a long, elegant finish.

Wine - Food pairing

This wine is excellent to combine with grilled red meat, game dishes, stews and hard cheeses. It is a wine that develops well with time and can mature in the bottle for several more years.

Domaine La Vielle Julienne

Jean-Paul Daumen, fifth generation owner and winemaker of La Vieille Julienne, is one of the most intriguing and influential winemakers in the southern Rhone. Despite being at the top of his field, he remains a dedicated wine student: he is endlessly curious and completely open to new ideas.

Its acreage of vineyards is located on the north side of the Châteauneuf-du-Pâpe appellation in relatively cool positions, which greatly enhances the quality of the wines. He also has plots on the 'Clavin' vineyard, which just falls short of the AOC ('normal' Côtes du Rhône) but is absolutely not inferior in quality.

When Jean-Paul took over the family business in 1990, he immediately started biodynamic viticulture. However, he is not one to follow the teachings to the letter, but he has renounced the use of herbicides, fungicides, fertilizers and chemicals in the vineyard. He also avoids unnatural additives (including cultured yeasts) in the cellar.
