Château Thuerry is above all a relationship between man and earth that has persisted through the ages. The Majestic Bastide dates back to the time of the Knights Templar and has roots that reach deep into the heart of the hills of the Var. The domain unfolds its 300 hectares of land over three communities, Villecroze, Flayosc and Tourtour. The hills form a natural barrier that protects the wines from the Mistral. The earth consists of clay, limestone and pebbles. These lands, where respect for the earth meets excellent wines, destined to produce a wine of character, use a delicate balance between both traditional agriculture and modern winemaking to make the best wine possible.
The vineyard has been developed over the years and is composed of several grape varieties including Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault, Rolle, in the last twenty five years Cabernet Sauvignon and Semillon, more recently Merlot, whose compatibility with the Cabernet Sauvignon is well known and unmistakable . The oldest vines planted with Cinsault in 1927 still produce a heady rosé. Each season they force themselves to innovate by replanting with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and most recently Mourvèdre, a variety specific to Provence.
