Carmes de Rieussec is the second wine of Château Rieussec, a renowned wine estate in the Sauternes appellation, and is made with the same care as their Grand Vin. This Sauternes is a classic sweet wine made from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle, grapes affected by noble rot (Botrytis cinerea). The wine has a beautiful golden color and offers intense aromas of dried fruit such as apricot and fig, honey, and a hint of vanilla. In the mouth it is silky and rich, with a harmonious balance between sweetness and fresh acidity, which ensures a long, complex finish.
Wine serving temperature: 8 - 10 °C.
Carmes de Rieussec is an ideal wine to accompany rich desserts such as tarte tatin, crème brûlée or caramelised pears. It also goes well with blue cheeses such as Roquefort or Stilton, which enhance the sweetness of the wine. For a bold pairing, it can be served with foie gras, where the sweetness and acidity are perfectly balanced with the richness of the dish. This wine is also delicious on its own as an after-dinner digestif.
Owned by the Rothschild family, Château Rieussec is one of the most famous vineyards in the Sauternes appellation, known primarily for its sweet Sauternes wines. The estate covers approximately 93 hectares and has a long history of wine production, with a focus on Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. While Château Rieussec focuses on the production of noble sweet wines, such as the famous Château Rieussec Sauternes, the dry white wine “R de Rieussec” is a modern addition to their portfolio and shows another side of this prestigious terroir.
