Carranco Etna Rosso

Carranco Etna Rosso is made with Nerello Mascalese grapes. This grape variety is considered the king among the native Etna vines. The grape vines of the Carranco Etna Rosso grow on volcanic soil. The grapes are grown on the Carranco estate, on vines that are approximately 50 years old.

Vinified in concrete tanks according to the oldest tradition, and aged in large oak barrels, this wine expresses the volcanic personality of the country of origin, a pronounced minerality and acidity, with a very elegant finish with a light, silky and savory tannin. intense fruity hints alternate with spicier notes.

Wine - Food pairing

Carranco Etna Rosso is an excellent accompaniment to gastronomic dishes, such as grilled meat, game, stews and mature cheeses. It is a wine that embodies the depth and complexity of Etna wines and reflects the distinctive properties of the terroir and the grape variety.

Carranco

Carranco was created from the collaboration between Borgogno and Tornatore. Borgogno, the oldest winery in Barolo, remains one of the most important and historic producers in the Langhe and of Barolo, while Tornatore, originally from Castiglione di Sicilia, is one of the few remaining indigenous producers on Etna. Two completely different wineries, which together are able to produce fantastic and authentic wines. In 2018, the desire arose to join forces to tell the story of a new, wild and unspoilt area: Mount Etna, under the name Carranco.

Etna is literally and figuratively the highlight of the area. The many eruptions have created soils rich in ash, volcanic sand and lava-based soils. This is also what Carranco wants to express in the wines: the power and explosiveness of Etna. The climate on the north side of Etna is influenced by its location near the sea. Thanks to the sea breeze, the climate is milder and slightly cooler, and the difference between day and night temperatures is greater. This strong identity in terroir allows wines of excellent quality to be produced here.

The Carranco estate is located at an altitude of 500 meters, on the north side of Etna. Here, eight hectares are planted with wine varieties native to Etna: Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Carricante. The old vinification room, known as the "Palmento", dates back to the 18th century. Today, wine is still made here using the traditional vinification process, combining concrete, wood and terracotta.
