Cap Maritime Pinot Noir is an extraordinary South African red wine that expresses the refinement, subtlety and complexity of the Pinot Noir grape variety. This wine is cherished for its elegance, vibrancy and beautiful expression of the unique terroir of the coastal region where it is produced.
The cool climate and weathered shale soil make the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley very suitable for making top quality Pinot Noir. The first vintage of this wine was made in 2017 from grapes from existing vineyards in the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. In 2019 Boekenhoutskloof bought a few small plots in this area, 4 kilometers away from the ocean, with a northwest exposure.
When poured, the Cap Maritime Pinot Noir reveals a bright ruby red color with purple hues that shine like a sparkling gemstone in the glass. The aroma is seductive and inviting, with a bouquet of ripe red berries such as strawberries, raspberries and cherries, accompanied by subtle floral notes and a hint of spice. These aromas promise a refined and intriguing taste experience.
At the first sip, the Cap Maritime Pinot Noir embraces your palate with its silky and elegant texture. Boekenhoutskloof Wine Estate is a renowned winery located in the Franschhoek Valley of South Africa. The estate is known for its exceptional quality wines and is considered one of the leading wine producers in the country. Boekenhoutskloof, despite its somewhat unusual African name for the 'French' Franschhoek, was founded three centuries ago by French Huguenots.
The winery was founded in 1776 and is located on a historic estate called Boekenhoutskloof, hence the name of the winery. The estate includes vineyards spread across diverse microclimates, contributing to the diversity and complexity of their wines.
Current winemaker Marc Kent also still has a thing for France. He visits at least once a year to gain new inspiration in the northern Rhône, Cornas. At home in Franschhoek he has made a name for himself with great wines such as Boekenhoutskloof Semillon, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, all of which are among the absolute top in South Africa. But Kent has more strings to his bow. In addition to these showpieces, which are only produced in small quantities, he also makes extremely attractive wines under the names Porcupine Ridge and The Wolftrap that are available to a wider audience. At a slightly higher level, this certainly includes The Chocolate Block.
