Cap Maritime Coastal Chardonnay is a remarkable South African white wine that reflects the essence of the coastal region where it is produced. Characterized by its vibrant character, freshness and complexity, this wine is a beautiful embodiment of the region's unique terroir.
The cool climate and weathered shale soils make the vineyards in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley very suitable for making high-quality Chardonnay. The first vintage was made in 2017 from grapes from existing vineyards in the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. In 2019 Boekenhoutskloof bought a few small plots in this area, 4 kilometers away from the ocean, with a northwest exposure. The grapes from these plots are supplemented with grapes from other vineyards on the coast.
When poured, the Cap Maritime Coastal Chardonnay reveals a bright, golden color that shines with vibrancy and freshness in the glass. The aroma is expressive and inviting, with a bouquet of ripe citrus fruits such as lemon, lime and grapefruit, mixed with subtle notes of white peach, honey and a hint of vanilla. These aromas promise an invigorating and refreshing taste experience.
At the first sip, the Cap Maritime Coastal Chardonnay enchants your palate with its lively and exuberant flavors. The wine has a lively acidity and excellent balance, with fruity notes that come together beautifully with a subtle minerality and a hint of oak. The palette is enriched with flavors of citrus, peach, pineapple and a hint of spice, leading to a long and satisfying finish.
Cap Maritime Coastal Chardonnay is a versatile wine that pairs well with a range of dishes. It goes perfectly with seafood such as grilled shrimps, lobster or with poultry and white meat dishes. This wine is also an excellent choice to pair with creamy cheeses, light salads or simply to enjoy as an aperitif. Whether you are enjoying a casual dinner with friends or celebrating a special occasion, the Cap Maritime Coastal Chardonnay will elevate any occasion with its outstanding character, complexity and refinement.

Boekenhoutskloof Wine Estate is a renowned winery located in the Franschhoek Valley of South Africa. The estate is known for its exceptional quality wines and is considered one of the leading wine producers in the country. Boekenhoutskloof, despite its somewhat unusual African name for the 'French' Franschhoek, was founded three centuries ago by French Huguenots.
The winery was founded in 1776 and is located on a historic estate called Boekenhoutskloof, hence the name of the winery. The estate includes vineyards spread across diverse microclimates, contributing to the diversity and complexity of their wines.
Current winemaker Marc Kent also still has a thing for France. He visits at least once a year to gain new inspiration in the northern Rhône, Cornas. At home in Franschhoek he has made a name for himself with great wines such as Boekenhoutskloof Semillon, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, all of which are among the absolute top in South Africa. But Kent has more strings to his bow. In addition to these showpieces, which are only produced in small quantities, he also makes extremely attractive wines under the names Porcupine Ridge and The Wolftrap that are available to a wider audience. At a slightly higher level, this certainly includes The Chocolate Block.
