Benoit Girardin Santenay 1er Cru La Maladière

Benoit Girardin Santenay 1er Cru La Maladière has a garnet brown color. Intense aromas of raspberries, cherries and black currants mixed with spices and licorice. In the mouth the taste is deep and intense. Firm yet discreet tannins provide a body that is smooth, finely textured and well built. A balanced and complex wine with a nice texture. Due to the aging in oak barrels, the wood is wonderfully intrigued with notes of caramel and toast. This wine has a lovely long finish.

Santenay 1er Cru La Maladière is a specific vineyard in the Santenay appellation in Burgundy, France. Considered one of the best premier cru vineyards in the area, it produces both red and white wines. The vineyard covers about 23 hectares and is situated on a gentle slope, with soils mainly consisting of clay and limestone. The clay soils contribute to the richness and intensity of the wines produced in this vineyard, while the limestone provides minerality and structure.

Made primarily from the Pinot Noir grape variety, the red wines of Santenay 1er Cru La Maladière are known for their depth and complexity, with flavors and aromas of dark fruits, such as blackberries and black cherries, as well as earthy and spicy notes. The tannins in these wines tend to be firm and structured, allowing them to age well.

The white wines of Santenay 1er Cru La Maladière are made from the Chardonnay grape variety and are known for their freshness and minerality, with flavors and aromas of citrus and stone fruits, as well as a subtle nuttiness.

Benoit Girardin

Benoit Girardin is a young winegrower from Burgundy. Generation after generation, the Girardin domain was passed down until Benoit took over 8 hectares of this historic domain in 2020 and has now fulfilled his wish to make his own wine. Before that time, Benoit not only gained experience in the family domain, but also trained as a wine oenologist in Beaune.

Girardin wines are synonymous with elegant, charming and honest wines that taste like where they come from. The vineyards include appellations such as Santenay, Savigny-Les-Beaune, Chassagne Montrachet and Pommard, which are planted with old vines.

Benoit's philosophy is clear, he wants to make top quality wines that are produced as naturally as possible with a focus on the hard work in the field and as little interference as possible in the vinification.
