Apostelhoeve Pinot Gris Barriques is a unique white wine produced by Wijndomein De Apostelhoeve, the oldest active wine estate in the Netherlands. Located on the Louwberg south of Maastricht, this winery benefits from perfect conditions for growing quality grapes. The Pinot Gris grape, also known as Pinot Grigio, gets an extra dimension here thanks to wood aging on barriques.
Pour the Apostelhoeve Pinot Gris Barriques into the glass and look at the beautiful golden yellow color. Compared to the 'normal' Apostelhoeve Pinot Gris, this version is slightly fuller in color, which already indicates the wood aging.
The scent of the Apostelhoeve Pinot Gris Barriques is rich and complex. In addition to the characteristic aromas of ripe exotic fruit such as pineapple, mango and lychee, which you also find in the standard Pinot Gris, there are also notes of vanilla, toast and spices. The wood aging on barriques provides this extra layer in the fragrance palette. On the tongue, the Apostelhoeve Pinot Gris Barriques is dry (trocken) and has a full body. The fruity notes continue to form the basis, but are nicely complemented by the vanilla and toast aromas from the wood aging. The wine has a refreshing acidity that provides balance and a pleasant roundness. The aftertaste is elegant, persistent and has a subtle hint of wood.
This Pinot Gris Barriques is even more versatile than the standard Pinot Gris from Apostelhoeve due to its full character. Enjoy it as an aperitif, but above all combine it with dishes with more flavor intensity. Think of Asian dishes with fried rice or chicken, creamy pasta, risotto or grilled meat. This wine also comes into its own with a cheese board with ripe cheeses.

The Dutch wine tradition, which originated in Roman times, gradually made way for other forms of agricultural activity after the Middle Ages. Until 1970 when the first vines returned to the southern slopes of the Jeker valley in Maastricht. Here, on one of Limburg's most beautiful spots on top of the Louwberg, the Netherlands' oldest and one of the largest wine estates in the Netherlands, De Apostelhoeve, is enthroned.
This wine estate, now over 10 hectares in size, produces six beautiful, dry white wines, namely: the Müller-thurgau, Auxerrois, Riesling, Pinot-gris, Pinot-gris barriques and the Apostelhoeve Cuvée XII plus two sparkling wines: Apostelhoeve Riesling Brut and Apostelhoeve Cuvée XII Brut.
