Abbaye Sylva Plana Faugères La Closeraie is a wine from the Faugères appellation in the Languedoc region of southern France, produced by Abbaye Sylva Plana, a historic abbey that has now become a renowned vineyard. "La Closeraie" refers to the walled garden or walled vineyard.
When poured, Abbaye Sylva Plana Faugères La Closeraie shows a deep ruby red color, which indicates the concentration and depth of the wine.
On the nose, the wine offers an enticing aroma of ripe dark fruits, such as blackberries and black currants, along with notes of spices, such as thyme and rosemary. There can also be subtle hints of toasted oak, which give the wine an extra dimension of complexity.
On the tongue, the wine presents itself with a full body and silky tannins. The taste is rich and concentrated, with the fruity notes coming together harmoniously with the spicy and earthy elements, characteristic of the Faugères style.
Abbaye Sylva Plana Faugères La Closeraie is a wine that is ideally suited to be enjoyed on a special occasion. It is an excellent accompaniment to grilled red meat, game dishes, stews and mature cheeses.
Abbaye Sylva Plana Faugères La Closeraie is a delicious red organic wine from the Languedoc region of France. This wine is made from Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan grapes by Abbaye Sylva Plana.
Recommended wine temperature between 16 °C and 18 °C.
Faithful to its 800-year Cistercian heritage, Sylva Plana Abbey cultivates the 54 hectares of its vineyard in organic farming. Since Roman antiquity and until the Middle Ages, the Benedictine monks cared for vineyards in Faugères, some of which were subsequently taken over by the Cistercians.
The vines are planted on slate, limestone and gray marble soils, often with a southern exposure. Summers are very dry and annual precipitation rarely exceeds 700mm per year. All grapes are picked by hand. They work here according to the biodynamic clock, natural treatment, biological composts, plowing with horses and minimal intervention in the cellar. This creates wines with a great 'terroir' expression.
The Faugères appellation is defined by its slate soil. Deposits of clay and sand that had accumulated on the seabed over millions of years, bordered at the same time by a mountain, were compressed and brought to extreme temperatures; thus formed these 'millefeuilles' of slate.
